This platform was developed by Evi Bert (M HKA / Centrum Kunstarchieven Vlaanderen) in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp (Research group Archivolt), M HKA, Antwerp and Koen Van der Auwera. We also thank Idris Sevenans (HOR) and Marc Ruyters (Hart Magazine).
Ann Veronica Janssens’s works are total experiences that completely change the perception of space. Magic Mirror Steel Blue is constructed from three layers of glass. Sandwiched between two intact plates sits a plate that has been broken into countless pieces. When light falls on the surface, the cracked glass reflects it in different directions. This creates shapes and colours that change according to the movements of the viewer. The work poses the question of what the essence of art is: is it its materiality or rather, its interaction with the world?
